Do you know how to write ad copy? Do you know what ad copy is? I know with me starting a new business venture in online marketing and blogging, I had to learn this new form of advertising. However, I have found it quite similar to making an outline for business proposals, marketing strategies and even proiritizing. If you know your product, have done your research, and be honest in your writing with some creativity, you will appeal to the market. So let’s go over the basics shall we.
STEP 1: KNOW YOUR PRODUCT
Know your products. Knowing how to write ad copy is also about knowing your products, the good and the bad. We all want to make money but you don’t want to get a bad name for promoting bad products. So do your research. Know the ins and outs of your product or service. Check statistics, quality of material, where they get their material, work conditions, how it holds up, any negative complaints on the company or good reviews. What does the product do?
These are the basic questions you need to ask yourself about the goods and services you are marketings. Once you have compiled your information then you need to go to your next step in the equation.
STEP 2: IS IT MARKETABLE – HOW TO WRITE AD COPY
Now that you know about your goods and services that you want to write ad copy for, you need to see if it is markable. Meaning, is there a demand or trend for what you have. Check Google trends for your product or service. See if there is a demand for it. See what people are saying about it. Then you want to make note of it and incorporate it into how to write ad copy for your product.
Once you have this information, then see who and how you want to market. Set your strategy!! With me, I have several products and services that I market for. Some are only marketable locally. While others are worldwide products. So as a result, I will make sure that my ad copy reflects that. Don’t leave marketing prospects on the table because you don’t know where your product is marketable. Then you want to proceed to creating your ad.
CREATE YOUR AD COPY
There are a few steps that you need while learning how to create ad copy. They my sound simple and too easy, but believe me they will get you noticed and customer coming to see what you have to offer. Remember, the key is to know your product and make sure you have a product that people want or need. So here goes. The steps that I have found that works in making good ad copy.
- Have an attention grabber. Make them believe you have something that they want or need. Statements like –
- “You won’t believe what I have found!”
- Get Rid of those Extra Pounds
- HEY, Look at this!!!
- What if….,
- WOW, You’ve got to see this”.
- You ready for the Holidays?
- Wine running low?
- Need extra money?
- Having trouble remembering things or keeping focus?
- Tell them what you are offering. Examples:
- I have found this amazing weight loss coffee.
- Get your wines delivered to your door.
- Now you can get your mental focus, energy and stamina back to peak performance.
- Plan your romantic getaway with this amazing travel app
- This online shopping mall has everything you need at your fingertips
The Body of your Ad Copy
- Be passionate as to why they need this product or service. Here is where you expand on your product and services based on your research. Also remember stories sell. So use your personal experience when possible on a product.
- You have been struggling to get rid of thos pounds. With only 2cups a day you literally drink your pounds away.
- Now you won’t have to guess about which wine to serve. Wine makes the perfect gift for any and all occasions.
- Plan a single night out on the town with your significant other or plan a weekend getaway. Nothing says, “I need you”, than a spontaneous getaway for your and your significant.
- When you are feeling unfocused, less alert and energy fading, a quick snap, slurp and swallow with help with this amazing new product. Your day will be more focused, have more energy and a sense of calm will help you get through your day.
- Create a sense of Urgency!!! Here you will give basically an expiration on the time they have to get in on the deal. Create the sense of FOMO – fear of missing out. Use keywords like:
- Limited time
- Today only
- Give specific dates to register
- No time to waste
- Supply is limited
- Then create your call to action. If you have appealed and giving them enough information, they will want to react to your call to action. You will have given them enough information to justify their action. Make your call to action exciting and reactionary. A must have, knee-jerk commitment. Use words and keyphrases like:
- Act now!
- Join now!!
- Register here!
- Get started today!!!
- Don’t waste time!
- What are you waiting for!!!
Create a template
Making a template of your ad copy helps you alleviate trying to remember your ads. So that you can use your ad copy over several different ad sites and social media platforms, use Google Docs to set up a template of your ad copies. Then it will be a matter of copy and paste to those site. With some simple modifications for both the headline and body, you can have an ongoing list of ads to use to market your goods and services.
A picture says a thousand words
Using Canva, photoshop or other imaging platform, you can create unique marketing images to help advertise your goods and services. I personally use Canva as it is very user friendly as FREE!!! However, you can purchase the upgrade for more options at your disposal.
Conclusion
So, now that you know how to write ad copy it is just a matter of what your goods and services are. Let your creative juices flow. Keep it simple but also unique with a personal touch. If you give good information, appeal to their need and have a great product or service, then your ad becomes order taking.
I personally have a website that I use to market with and do not use direct linking. That way I can create a clientele and market more products in a single place. My website is my shopping mall and it generates several streams of income. If you would like to get your own website and learn how to market with a website then check out my blog page.
