Types of Plant Based Foods – What is plant-based foods

Earth bound foods

Earth-bound foods are what I call veggies that grow from the ground. In other words, you plant them in the ground and they grow from a seed or seedling. The ground is cultivated, fertilized and prepared to make growth and nutrition optimal for the plant. Therefore, the resulting fruit or vegetable will have the best texture, flavor and tastes available.

Water type plant-based foods

As the the earth is encompassed with more water than land in some places, it stands to reason that it also yields edible food for both human and animal. The plants available and edible are some you may already be using. I know in salads, casseroles and even seasoning, some of these plants are great tasting. Plants like water cress, Lebanese cress (also known as Croatian cress, Kang kong (water spinach), water chestnuts, edible taro, water parsley, water mint can be a great addition to your garden, and extend the range of greens you have available over summer. With proper care, some of these plants are raised in a small, warm room for use year round. These plants fit in great with our topic of what is plant based foods.

Tree and vine fruits

Growing up in the South, we have all types of trees and vines that grow great tasting, nutritious fruits. We have oranges and citrus fruits in Florida, Fig, plum, pear and apple trees are abundant in the mountains from Tennessee to Alabama. Not to mention the variety of grapes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and other assorted fruits we have at our disposal. Depending on the time of year, you will always find some type of fruit or plant available to eat.

Plant-Based products

Cold-pressed drinks

The standard for cold-pressed juices has been set by Pressed Juicery. They abide by a guiding principle that is quite simple. Affordable, accessible and delicious nutrition for everyone. Millions of customer are provided farm-to-bottle healthy juices from farmers and growers in the California’s Central Valley.

As all the fresh produce drinks at Pressed Juicery are processed using highest quality press in existence, it does things a bit differently. Normal “centrifugal” juicers takes the whole fruit or veggie and squeezes the juice out for processing. However at Pressed Juicery, they use High Pressure Processing or HPP. This is an approved method from the FDA. By using HPP, it ensures the highest nutrient density with the least impact to vitamins, antioxidants and nutrition loss.

HPP is the process of taking the bottle of juice through a cold water chamber and applying a high volume of pressure. Thereby, with this high dose of pressure, it inactivates potential and harmful pathogens. It is also stored in plastic bottles. IF they used glass bottles, then pasterization would be needed. As a result, the juice would then be heated and vital nutrients would be loss. Thereby, the cold-pressed system would not be possible.
